Jessica Lesko founded and formed Hounds Haven Basset Rescue when she noticed a un staggering amount of Basset's in the state of IA needing help from owners needing to surrender them or the Basset's in high kill shelters. Her love for the breed has been long existing. She lives in Vail, IA and currently has 4 hounds of her own, a Doxie who thinks he is a Basset and at any given time 3 foster hounds needing placed in loving forever homes. the above picture is of Jessica's daughter Maggie, and 4 of the hounds that have been saved and placed into loving homes by Jessica.

ADOPTION & TRANSPORT COORDINATOR FOR HOUNDS HAVEN

Jess'e's love for the breed goes back to her childhood when her dad brought home their first Basset girl, Katie. The instant her husband and Jess'e were married and purchased their first home they went to the local shelter and in the very last run of the building sat Zoey, scared skinny and MINE ;0) she is now 13 years old and the resident matriarch of thier house!!
Jess'e joined rescue back in 2003, when she lost my sweet baby hound Matilda to being hit by a car. She never knew that the world of Basset Rescue existed until one day when she went online to search for a new hound once her grieving was somewhat less for Matilda. That day she found a rescue called MABHR out of Kansas. Since that day she has been in rescue. She continued to work with MABHR as their adoption, foster and transport coordinator until they dismembered in 2005. We looked for a rescue closer to my home here in IA and found Jessica and Hounds Haven and the rest has been history ;0) The picture to the side if of Jess'e's hounds (left to right) Zoey, Molly, Odi & Bella.

INTAKE AND FOSTER HOME COORDINATOR FOR HOUNDS HAVEN

Helena lives in Ames with her husband and their 2 Bassets and Beagle boy. She also foster's one hound at any given time. She is responsible for locating a foster home for a hound in need, if we have any available. And if we don't have the means, for example medically challenged hounds, or just no foster homes open she searches and locates all breed rescue's to help, or other Basset rescue's in other states and then I arrange transport for them to that rescue.
